This is the golden age of model training. Some days ago, I decided I wanted a local CPU only model that can perform exceptionally well for English to Bash translation (to avoid the googling for command syntax). I got a bunch of subagents to generate large amount of training data (140k+ samples), got the Qwen 3 0.6B base model, pointed Astra at it, and off to the races. It trained for 2 days (on and off) and I got a surprisingly good model for my task! The total active time I spent was a few hours. And it is still improving, what a time to be alive!

Lot's of software is inherently adversarial. Take YouTube for example. The algorithm hill-climbs on user engagement metrics, which is often not aligned with human values.
In light of this, I vibe coded a wrapper around YouTube that's designed exactly how I want it to maximize my utility
Will be sharing more details soon but I'm generally excited for the future where I can create bespoke software to overcome all B2C SaaS misalignments

I've been using an app called Forcefield that does this. It's pretty good, and very good at blocking the content I don't want, but I don't think Haiku (or Qwen, or the other small AIs that often power it) really understand my preferences deeply enough to recommend stuff

I've been coding since 1982, I've hand assembled machine code, injected fixes into running processes, worked on software that's made it to Mars and worked as a software developer for decades.

Every time I get Claude to dig into how it has implemented something, I discover some new batshit thing it has done.
Like Claude deciding for some reason that the changes we worked on only apply to Q2 and not Q3 just b/c we were using a Q2 at the time.

And I would like to suggest that slowing the fuck down is the way to go. Give yourself time to think about what you're actually building and why. Give yourself an opportunity to say, fuck no, we don't need this. Set yourself limits on how much code you let the clanker generate per day, in line with your ability to actually review the code.
