Just as "don't anthropomorphize AI" has turned into a kind of overproxy, "it's naive to think about the implications if the AI agents were people" is itself too naive by half. Compliance with law (h/t @jasoncrawford) is actually a decent proxy for whether something is 'aligned'.

Zac Hill tweet arguing that thinking about AI agents as if they were people is useful and that compliance with law is a decent proxy for alignment; quotes dave kasten saying the report's contents would be a five-alarm fire if done by humans at a defense or national security agency.

Really great that we have the OpenAI and METR reports out now. Still digesting them. I'm personally much more interested in the possible *causes* of the behaviours as opposed to the specific incidents/behaviours themselves; with... [cut off]

Zac Hill's tweet comparing the (OpenAI/METR-reported) agent incidents to the Chernobyl meltdown as a testing environment that stripped out safeguards, quoting Seb Krier on the OpenAI and METR reports being out and his interest in causes over specific incidents.
