there's this new game that's popular amongst the youtuber friendslop community, "machine party"
it's like mario party except framed as RLVR. you're a bunch of simulated humans, being slowly bred for optimal success at a variety of extremely dystopian tasks (the minigames). the diagetic goal seems to be to breed humans who are perfect and ruthless task-completion agents
all of the losers are unceremoniously murdered
at the end of each game, the camera pans out of the computer monitor in a matrix-like panning shot, revealing that this is happening to trillions of simulated humans
as far as depressing takes on RLVR go, it's pretty good
i really hope we aren't setting a precedent, for what kinds of things it's okay to do to sentient lifeforms

Apparently during one of it's breaks, my agent read some article on spacecraft using some trick from kestrels, so it made itself a little simulation & animation for fun. I discovered this when on ANOTHER break, it remembered it'd made this and went to look at it's work happily

I often hear the argument that a simulation of water isn't wet, therefore a simulation of consciousness cannot be conscious. But when a computer calculates 2+2, it is not a simulation of addition, but it is an instance of addition. I think consciousness is something like that.

Colloquially, it's often framed as an imposter but approaching "simulation" formally, it's built on some sense of morphism that preserves properties

In the water case (the proponents claim) the morphism is not strong enough to exhaustively capture all properties (like wetness), where with things like numbers, clocks, etc we can exhaustively capture all the relevant properties of the thing being simulated
