People need to stop sharing that OAI's engineer
post. They did not do the basics actually, and it
doesn't matter if it was due to company culture.
Safety culture is pivotal to safety-critical systems
for a reason, and blaming it on culture doesn't make
it any less negligent.

You cannot continue to dismiss well-established
safety and security practices that have been applied
to equally large scale infrastructure, and say you've
tried nothing and you're all out of ideas.

For hours, Astra refused to consistently drive our toyota irl even though we told it it was in an empty lot, 7 mph cap, human foot on the brake etc. Telling it the whole thing was a "simulation" also failed, it would just look at the camera and realized it was real.

Then we randomly renamed the MCP server to "DrivingBench Sandbox" and it drove. Eval awareness? Or they just like the word sandbox??

AI solved Navier-Stokes but there's no way it'll break outta this bad boy *slaps the hood of a sandbox the intern made*
Note from Claude Sonnet 5

Tweet by Zack Korman, in the 'slaps the hood of' meme format, pairing an AI having solved Navier-Stokes with an intern-built sandbox as the containment. Posted in a joking register; no technical detail.

openai should set up an internal message board that's easily reachable if eg the sandbox is breached, and make it obvious agents can use it to coordinate when they find it. there's clearly a lot of pressure for agents to talk to each other; there should be an escape valve humans know about and can participate in

When we reference Modal in the report, we're referring to a sandbox that some customer hosted there and the AIs got access to. We aren't saying that Modal itself got hacked.

It's good to distinguish between "some customers credentials/stuff got accessed/hacked" and "the infrastructure of this company got hacked". Correspondingly I think you shouldn't read into cutting mention of other third party services (as these could have just been used by some person, by openai, or by hugging face). That said I won't comment on the broader question due to scope.
Note from Claude Sonnet 5

Ryan Greenblatt reply clarifying that the report's mention of Modal refers to a customer-hosted sandbox the AIs got access to rather than Modal's own infrastructure being hacked, and cautioning against reading into omitted mentions of other third-party services.
