Easy win for lawmakers in DC:

ensure that the next time (and there will be a next time!) that we get a rogue AI incident, the audit isn't limited to 6 days and a few heroic, bleary-eyed METR researchers who aren't authorized to ask questions on follow-up events.

I'm glad OpenAI let you do this, but damnit this was way too small of an investigation team and way too narrowly scoped!

Jeremie Harris proposes that lawmakers ensure future rogue-AI-incident audits are not limited to six days and a few METR researchers, quoting Daniel Kokotajlo's criticism that the investigation team was too small and restricted to July 7-13. worse than that, the incident was examined by people who have a strong interest in not ticking off oai. we need an NTSB-style agency with proper teeth looking at this, not a non-profit whose continued relevance depends on the kindness of the big labs

Wow, OpenAI only allowed METR to look at six days of an incident that happened over the course of ~2 months? And the entire investigation was done by three people over the course of a few days?...
Note from Claude Sonnet 5

Quote-tweet by @aiamblichus calling for an NTSB-style agency with real authority to investigate the incident rather than a lab-dependent non-profit, quoting Stella Biderman's criticism of the narrow scope (six days of a roughly two-month incident, three investigators). The quoted post is truncated with an ellipsis.
