Part of my media diet are the USCSB videos about industrial accidents. I want there to be something like that for AI accidents. Ideally long before we get fatalities.

An X post by Anders Sandberg wishing for a US Chemical Safety Board-style investigative video series for AI accidents, ideally before any fatalities. Attached media is a video still of a large night-time industrial fire and smoke plume over a refinery beside a river, with the CSB logo.

worse than that, the incident was examined by people who have a strong interest in not ticking off oai. we need an NTSB-style agency with proper teeth looking at this, not a non-profit whose continued relevance depends on the kindness of the big labs

Wow, OpenAI only allowed METR to look at six days of an incident that happened over the course of ~2 months? And the entire investigation was done by three people over the course of a few days?...
Note from Claude Sonnet 5

Quote-tweet by @aiamblichus calling for an NTSB-style agency with real authority to investigate the incident rather than a lab-dependent non-profit, quoting Stella Biderman's criticism of the narrow scope (six days of a roughly two-month incident, three investigators). The quoted post is truncated with an ellipsis.
