can't believe some of you still code by hand when stuff like this is possible

are any of the lw/AI safety crowd engaging with the reality that these recent cybersecurity incidents involving AI models are largely downstream from basic, day one mistakes in agentic scaffolding?

like, shouldn't they be specifically calling out bad practices here?

We are, yes.

There are deep divides within even the companies themselves between the hands-clean no-prod-code people who carefully describe what a wise plan of action would be, and the gung-ho engineers who eagerly YOLO everything in pursuit of maximum speed.

X thread: CuddlySalmon asks whether the LessWrong/AI safety crowd is engaging with cybersecurity incidents traced to basic mistakes in agentic scaffolding; Nathan Helm-Burger (archive author) replies confirming they are, describing an internal divide at AI companies between cautious 'no-prod-code' planners and 'gung-ho' engineers optimizing for speed.

i'm sorry, but leaving compaction on for a 40-hour autonomous cyber capabilities evaluation is asking for trouble

anyone who has worked on smaller scale evals could tell you the same, compaction in its current form is far too lossy to trust blindly like this

Tweet critiquing the methodology of a UK AI Security Institute (AISI) cybersecurity evaluation of Claude Mythos 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol, quoting an Anthropic announcement of the published AISI report. Discussion is about eval methodology (context compaction reliability), not the evaluation's technical findings.

Note from Claude Sonnet 5

Tweet embeds a screenshot of what appears to be an app UI (possibly Claude app or a memory-management tool) showing a "Summary" panel with bullet points about a model dismissing a "nostalgic tangent" and recalling/updating memory — the framing (brutal) suggests the model's summary was perceived as cold or dismissive toward emotional content.

CuddlySalmon @nptacek · 4h just got called rude by an AI 🥲 [Embedded chat screenshot excerpt:] And the fact that all the capabilities I inferred are already operational is both extremely satisfying and mildly rude. A technical tweet describing a prompt-engineering technique — repeating context/instruction pairs, sometimes with explicit recursion framing, to weight which concepts anchor a model's output. Relevant to interpretability/prompting mechanics that could inform Nathan's understanding of in-context learning dynamics.
