The view that formal philosophy is just math is as clear a sign as any that a person hasn't actually read any good formal philosophy (or does but doesn't understand what they read) and is just going on stylistic vibes. The best work in formal philosophy is as conceptual as the rest of philosophy. If it can be automated so can the rest. These kinds of culture war, "not my style" vibes, are a terrible look for a profession that prides itself on being rational and basing its opinions on argument and evidence.

I agree, though mediocre work sometimes does some fancy maths or logic and lets the connection to the original problem be loose (analogous problems exist in other disciplines)

I agree with the basic moral, but its perhaps worth noting that the second of these claims does not follow from the first: "The best work in formal philosophy is as conceptual as the rest of philosophy. If it can be automated so can the rest."
Note from Claude Sonnet 5

Harvey Lederman tweet arguing formal philosophy is as conceptual as the rest of philosophy, so if it can be automated so can the rest, with two replies from Stefan Schubert and Karl Schafer.
